Disc Guard Training Jian (Straight Sword)

Concept

A simple and elegant training Jian. Balanced and effortless to control, for beginner or expert alike.

Through years of training experience it became apparent that most of the lighter, more wieldable Jian available (especially for beginner and intermediate practitioners) have terrible build quality and are essentially disposable, while the rigid bladed "higher build quality" versions are uncomfortable and appallingly balanced. This Jian is aimed at the seemingly empty middle ground. 

Extremely comfortable to use, the low weight and balance point landing 4" (100mm) up from the guard give this sword a light and nimble feeling for fast blocking, parrying and short jabbing movements, while having enough forward weight to carry good power through longer cutting or thrusting strokes. That power is then easily controllable on the exit of the stroke, due to the afore mentioned low weight and good balance.

Available in various blade lengths from 26" (66cm) to 32" (81cm), custom lengths are available upon request. Please contact us if you have a specific size or balancing requirements.

Blade - Rigid, unsharpened 75CR1 high carbon spring steel. Hardened and tempered to 54HRC for excellent toughness and a perfect spring temper.

Guard and Pommel - Cast Bronze

Handle - Indian Blackwood - other wood options are available please email for custom requests or details of other options.

Sheath - Multiple layers of 3mm veg tanned leather, glued, hand-stitched and dyed black (custom colours are available please email for details). A strap with brass d-rings has been added at 120mm from the mouth of the guard, so the sword can be tied to a belt or sash and worn on the waste, hanging at the perfect angle to be drawn or sheathed.
