Thomas is a practitioner of traditional Chinese martial arts and wanted a custom length Guandao that could also be dismantled for travel.

Blade - 75Cr1 spring steel, hardened and tempered to 54HRC - not hard enough to chip or snap but extremely tough.

Pommel spike - En8 medium carbon steel with good wear resistance

Guard and Ferrules - En3 low carbon steel, lacquered for rust protection

Shaft - Ash, tenoned all the way through the ferrules and cross pinned with custom made brass screws

Sheath - Hand made from multiple layers of 3mm veg tanned leather, wet-formed around the blade and dyed a deep red-brown, finished with brass rivets and snaps on the retaining straps
